Houston is top in Texas for finding work
Where new jobs are concerned, Houston outclasses every other major city in Texas by a longshot. Even Austin which, in the same study, came in number one for “best places to live”, trails Houston by a considerable margin in terms of job availability. In this category, Houston ranks number five in the nation, with Austin trailing behind in sixth place.
According to the report, generated by US News and World Report, Houston ranks high based on its strength in several industries, including energy, aviation, finance, and the space industry, however, it is also noted that the city is number one in America in terms of the number of fast-food restaurants. In fact, Houston is the city that boasts more outlets than any other for all of America’s fast-food restaurants.
Other cities in the top five include Chicago at number four, San Francisco at number three, New York at number two, and Seattle at number one.
Unemployment at a record low in Houston
Adding to the strong job market is an unemployment rate that is currently sitting at a 42-year low, having dropped from 3.8 percent to 3.7 percent in October alone.
